Full Name: Misty Ralston
Title: Attorney
What is the name of your business or firm? Ralston Law
Which state(s)/county(ies) do you service? New Jersey
Which professional field do you work in? While I focus my firm mostly on estate planning, I also offer mediation services to my clients.
How many years of experience do you have within your field? I graduated from law school in 2016 and worked as a family court law clerk. Following my clerkship I was a Child Support Hearing Officer, which then developed into doing Child Support, Domestic Violence Hearing Officer, and Family Mediator for the Courts. In November of 2022, I opened my own firm focusing on estate planning so that I could continue to help families avoid court and conflict. I have a total of eight years of family experience and two years of estate planning.
What certifications do you hold? Mediation. I am also part of the Personal Family Lawyer network.
What related services (if applicable) do you offer? I offer family mediation and uncontested divorce services.
What drew you to join the Amicable Divorce Network? The entire focus of my firm is to keep families out of court and conflict and I love the idea of being able to do this with divorce as well.
How does your firm/practice/business impact the lives of families and individuals? My firm impacts the lives of families and individuals by helping to keep them out of court and conflict. By creating estate planning documents, having reviews every three years, or every year, hosting family meetings, and even doing legacy interviews we ensure that families are protected and everyone understands what the person wants and why so there are no surprises later.
What makes you stand out as a professional, or what do you do that sets you apart?
(Experiences, community partnerships, awards, etc.) I think what sets me apart is that I treat my clients the way I would want to be treated. I welcome them to the office and have water and snacks for them. If I know they are coming from work, I might offer to grab dinner for them. It’s not unusual for me to go to a client’s home or give them my cell number. I want my clients to feel comfortable reaching out if they have a question.
What has been the biggest benefit of your membership with ADN? I think just having a network in Southern New Jersey that also wants to help keep families out of court and conflict as much as possible aligns with my goals – it’s sad to see so many attorneys want to increase conflict or nickel and dime clients. I’m proud to be part of groups that do not see the practice of law in that light.
Do you have a favorite/saying/words to live by? “We may not always get what we want, we may not always get what we need, just so we don’t get what we deserve”.
Misty Ralston’s dedication to creating a harmonious and conflict-free experience for her clients not only sets her apart but also strengthens the core mission of the Amicable Divorce Network. By prioritizing effective communication and personalized care, Misty exemplifies how legal professionals can profoundly impact families’ lives in a positive way. Her commitment to keeping families out of court and conflict underscores the value of a thoughtful and empathetic approach to law.
